Sustainability is at the core of our operational pursuits. Whether by recycling, reducing CO2 emissions and maintaining LEED certification or offering you ways to take advantage of green power generation, we’re working hard to reduce environmental impact on the community.

Helping local businesses meet sustainability goals

We’re partnering with local businesses to help them reduce the environmental impact of their operations. Moxy Chattanooga Downtown, for example, is the first hotel in the community to offer guests the opportunity to reduce the estimated environmental impact of their stay for a nominal upcharge.

Through a partnership, EPB will provide energy generated through Solar Share™ towards renewable energy credits to cover each nightly stay. The Moxy also purchased enough renewable energy credits to cover all 12 of the special events planned for their first year of participation. In doing so, the Moxy Chattanooga is offsetting an environmental impact equivalent to charging 1.4 million smart phones.

Helping teach students the power of EV technology

Hundreds of Hamilton County students have taken the challenge to design and build full-size, functioning electric power race cars. Working with green|spaces and STEM schools, we’re helping prepare local students for the tech jobs of tomorrow by providing access to our knowledge and expertise in design, engineering and electric vehicle technology.

The ultimate test of the students’ work occurred at the Chattanooga Green Prix race held in downtown Chattanooga, where they competed against student teams from several states.

We practice what we teach through LEED certification

Our downtown headquarters was the first building in Chattanooga to receive LEED certification for Existing Buildings, Operations and Maintenance. LEED focuses on cultural and operational processes within a commercial building to ensure all meet certain standards for sustainability.
